Fans of the bubbly, pint-sized Ayesha Omar are in for a surprise, as the actress sheds her girl-next-door image to shake a leg in a dance number for her upcoming movie Karachi se Lahore. The five-second clip of Ayesha clad in a lehnga choli and showing off some sizzling moves has been doing the rounds on social media all weekend and the tantalizing teaser is certainly piquing our interest in the rom-com road trip flick directed by Wajahat Rauf.

In an exclusive chat with Instep, Ayesha revealed that she is also the voice behind the song, which is titled “Tutti Frutti”. A peppy, energetic desi number, it marks a departure from the more Western styled songs she has sung so far. As for the video, the actress insists it’s not an ‘item’ number because those have a sexual connotation that’s missing here. “There is no titillation and there is nothing vulgar about the song or the dance. Basically my character is stuck in a situation and this performance is her way of getting out of it. It’s a very fun number.”

Choreographed by Wahab Shah, and with costumes by Tena Durrani, the video was shot in just two nights. “We didn’t have a lot of time to rehearse and on top of that, I had a foot injury. I was really scared and didn’t think I could do it, but I believe when you want to give something your very best, nothing can stop you.”

It does seem like the actress’ apprehensions were misplaced for even though the clip is tiny, we can tell she’s looking stunning and certainly dancing up a storm.

Maalik: new political thriller sets its eyes on Independence Day release

While the Malik Riaz biopic may have been shelved for the time being, a new political thriller that appears as exciting as the business tycoon’s life story is currently under production. Titled Maalik, the film is said to be the story of an Elite Special Forces man whose life turns into a muddled mayhem as politics and the VIP culture begins to encroach on his family’s peace. He realizes that serving the nation is more complicated than obeying orders.

The official trailer promises hard-hitting dialogues and an action-packed story that is hinted to be centred on the kidnapping of the protagonist’s son. The film is expected to have an Independence Day release nationwide.

Directed, written and produced by Ashir Azeem who is famous for his play Dhuwan and will also be seen in Yalghaar, the film features veteran actor Sajid Hasan alongside Farhan Ali Agha, Sabreen Baloch, Hassan Niazi and the director himself in lead roles. Dukhtar actor Adnan Tipu was also spotted in the trailer.

The Maalik trailer shows that the new-age cinema’s fascination with the armed forces continues. While offering an incisive look at the socio-political dynamic of life in Pakistan, the film offers a heavy dose of slick visuals that tends to draw audiences these days.

Asrar releases new single ‘Khilona’

It seems like Asrar is the go-to singer when the need is to sing of love. After his Coke Studio performance, he had steadily treated his fans to hit after hit, all of which have centred around matters of the heart. While he has had a quixotic approach to it in the past, his latest single ‘Khilona’ – sung as the OST of a TV serial of the same name – goes the traditional route, bemoaning the trials of an ill-fated romance.

The four and a half minute song is a soft pop-rock composition that blends soulful lyrics with Asrar’s signature rustic vocals, taking the listener on a harmonious voyage.

Born in the valleys of Azaad Kashmir, Asrar is known for his rustic sound, Sufi/Tasawwuf poetry blends with modern contemporary pop elements and his vocal prowess that allows him to reach higher notes with ease.

Known for his songs like ‘Ni Saiyo’, ‘Sab Akho Ali Ali’ and ‘Shakar Wandaan Re’, the rugged musician/songwriter has achieved many milestones such as clinching the first spot at All Pakistan Music Conference. His musical journey and desire to explore the horizons of music and sounds has ultimately led him to open his own music production house in association with friends called Soul Speaks Productions.
