The rumours have been around for years. Will they? Won’t they? Almost every show from the nineties-naughties period has been considered to return in some form. And some have, as complete reboots, while others have taken off with the same characters.

And it looks like the beloved Friends (1994-2004) fans can do a dance because Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica (Courteney Cox), Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) are coming back.

The group of six is returning for a one-off HBO Max special that will be unscripted and will mark the debut of HBO’s streaming service. Reports suggest that all six stars will receive 25 million dollars each for participating in the special. It will take them back to the same studio where the original Friends series was shot.

Noted Variety: “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, in a statement. “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

The reunion will take place in May when HBO Max is launched. Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer are also executive producing the special.
