Netflix’s Messiah trailer is riveting

Netflix chief Reed Hastings did say he’s going to put more money in original content and he’s already investing 3 billion dollars a year. So, the pressure is on Netflix to produce quality content and they have picked up on the signals.

Their upcoming serial, Messiah, for which the official trailer has been unveiled is exactly the kind of television that is riveting enough for one to make a note about its official release, which is January 1, 2020.

The trailer opens with a man who is leading a stronghold of people. Some see him as a Messiah who saves a child; others see him as a danger because they know nothing about him and in the age of technology, everyone leaves clues so why is there nothing on him.

American National Security is as always on the case and wondering if he is creating “an army” or “leading people to their deaths”.

He has been to Syria, Israel, and Texas and disappears just as easily as he appears. On his case is Michelle Monaghan, who is not a believer. Some see this man as a vessel doing god’s work but not Monaghan who vows to find out everything about the man. A media frenzy is also brewing with many wondering how long this movement will go on.

Hitting all the right buttons, from refugees to religion, from politics to pure mystery to theological debates to the disbelief of the agencies in-charge of protecting the union and the friction between all these forces , Messiah’s first season looks like a surprise Netflix came up with and the trailer has us hooked, wondering how soon January 1 will arrive.

Starring Mehdi Dehbi as Al-Masih, who looks fantastic in the lead role, with Michelle Monaghan essaying Eva Geller, the series has a mixed cast and is not fixated on Caucasian actors only, which is another plus. Watch out! This one could be very interesting.
