The recently concluded Creative Arts and Media (CAM) Summit and Exhibition that took place at the Expo Centre in Karachi aimed to bring together academia and the media industry. Organized by Sindh Madressahtul Islam University (SMIU) to support DICE’s objective of connecting upcoming talent with related industry on a common platform, the forum provided an opportunity for some constructive dialogue.

To identify emerging trends in media industry and to keep up with them, artists from the fraternity came together and exchanged their views on the subject. At the DICE conference, Sarwat Gilani moderated one of the panels on ‘Drama, Film and Web’ with Asim Abbasi, Hasan Zaidi, Sanam Saeed, Shazia Wajahat, Zanjabeel Asim Shah, Nimra Bucha, Yasra Rizvi, Ahmed Adeel, Aly Mustansir and Arjumand Raheem as panelists.

“Many creative heads got together to identify the gaps and opportunities we have in the media industry in order to make policies that could facilitate growth and productivity in all the areas of the entertainment industry,” Sarwat shared with Instep post the event.

“The two major problems that we addressed at the conference were: How to sustain our local TV and film market and how do we elevate from having only a local market to also looking into a digital market,” she added.

The panel also talked about gaps that need to be filled and opportunities that can be availed to elevate film, television and journalism in Pakistani media.

Sanam Saeed also took to social media and shared, “Very constructive initiative taken by the Sindh Madrassatul Islam University; interesting conversations and ideas discussed at the one of the SWOT analysis of the media industry at the SMIU DICE (distinguished, innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship)-CAM (creative arts and media). All the right people in our media industry, with the support of government officials having open discussions, highlighting the issues we are facing and coming up with the right opportunities and suggestions on how to move forward and save our media and entertainment market from crumbling.”
