Kendrick Lamar did not win, again

It is impossible for the Grammys to get things right when it comes to Kendrick Lamar. While the victory of Childish Gambino for This is America in most of the top categories at the Grammys 2019 was certainly a meritorious victory, particularly since gun violence in America claims more lives than all of Europe, but it seems the Grammys got swayed by the stars (in this case Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga) and handed off the award for Best Song Written for Visual Media to those two rather than Kendrick Lamar & SZA for ‘All The Stars’.

It was all well when Michelle Obama and a slew of women took over the stage, but what has Kendrick Lamar done, it begs the question.

Not surprisingly, both Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino declined to perform at the Grammys 2019.

“The fact of the matter is, we continue to have a problem in the hip-hop world,” Ken Ehrlich, the show’s producer told NYT. “When they don’t take home the big prize, the regard of the academy, and what the Grammys represent, continues to be less meaningful to the hip-hop community, which is sad.”

Maybe when deserving artists get nominated in deserving categories, they just might start showing up instead of contemplating giving up their trophies.
