Will Oscars follow the ‘no host’ trend this year?

Actor and comedian Kevin Hart dropped out of hosting the Oscars last month after there was a social media storm surrounding homophobic remarks he had posted previously. With only a month to go, recent reports suggest that the 91st Academy Awards might go without a host when it airs live on February 24, 2019 on ABC Network.

Though Ellen DeGeneres tried persuading Kevin Hart to change his mind when he appeared on The Ellen Show, it didn’t work. However, it now seems that the organisers are cool with the idea of not actually having a host at all.

“All options are open, including going without a host or some variation of multiple hosts,” a source familiar with the situation told People Magazine earlier this month. “There has been a lot of interest from within the industry offering up names of potential hosts. Nothing has been decided yet.”

It is believed that hosting duties will probably fall to a number of different stars that will include the likes of different comedians and A-list celebrities.

No matter what happens, the source also said that “it will be an entertaining night.” By the looks of it, this could be the start of a ‘no host’ trend for award ceremonies in the future.
