Zain Ahsan from Poor Rich Boy is producing so much music that it’s possible to get the numbers wrong. But as Zain Ahsan confirmed to Instep, he is producing Jimmy Khan’s Tich Button folk live EP, which consists of five songs; he is also producing an EP for Pepsi Battle of the Bands runner-up band, Xarb; the EP will contain five tracks.

“I’m also producing an aspiring artist from the city,” Zain revealed to Instep.

Poor Rich Boy’s own third album, Almost Tuesday, which Zain is a part of and is also its producer, is a collection of eight songs in total, of which three [‘Preacher’, ‘Cereal Killer’, ‘Almost Tuesday’] have been released and more will arrive – with music videos - even as the band has begun work on its fourth album.

“There are five more songs I’m going to be releasing,” Zain told Instep.

When asked whether their excellent debut Urdu single, ‘Tootay Huay Admi‘ will be followed by other songs, Zain confirmed that a song called ‘Kaghazi’ is in the pipeline. “It’s an old song by Duck (Umer Khan) that we re-did with the band and we performed it at the SXSW Tour,” Zain recalled. “There’s a video online, in the footage of The Kennedy Center show we did. We’ve been performing it for many years in our live set and I think it’s about time we put it out because a lot of fans want a copy of it.”

When asked why the shift in language, Zain revealed, “Actually, there has never been a shift. Maybe we started off with English but there were always Urdu songs in there too. Now there are a few songs that are bilingual. There is Urdu, but there’s English as well. I guess we’ve just focused more on the English side but there were always Urdu songs that we never really put out but I think it’s time to throw them out there, too.”

Poor Rich Boy’s next release will be ‘Kaghazi’.
