After making waves in Karachi and Lahore, Anwar Maqsood and Dawar Mehmood’s latest theatrical collaboration - Kyun Nikala - is all set to take the stage in Islamabad. It is scheduled to open in the capital tonight at PNCA and will be performed there till December 2, after which it may have an international run next year.

With a political backdrop, the play attempts to capture politicians closer to elections and how a political party tends to manipulate the opposition prior to general elections.

Kyun Nikala features Sajid Hasan as Chaudhry, a former minister in Punjab, Mohsin Ejaz as a Bengali cook named Mujeeb Bengali, who is employed at his home for many years and is more like his right-hand man. The two remain the major highlight of the play and make it a must-watch with their impressive performances.

The production also features Tanveer Gill, Nazar Hussain, Sarah Saifi, Raza Zaidi, Maha Hasan, Rabbiya Shakil and Khadija Hashim.

Written by Maqsood and directed by Mehmood, who came together for this particular play after a gap of three years, Kyun Nikala premiered in Karachi on the eve of Independence Day while its Lahore run came to an end earlier this month. Though the reviews were mixed, it had a successful run in the two cities. Let’s see how Islamabad receives it.
