It may not have the support of filmmakers like Chris Nolan. It may have competitors in the present and future threats, but it looks like Netflix, the streaming giant, is flying high as subscriber growth has soared. As Netflix said in a statement for the quarter, it is looking to add 28.9 million customers in 2018, a record for the company. It is also said that the success of Netflix is due to the fact that it invests millions of dollars in original programming.

In other words, content is king and Netflix has not only gone after top talent (Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy) but is still investing in original shows.

According to Chicago Tribune, India is a source of strength for Netflix. Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told the publication that shows like Sacred Games and Ghol have made Netflix “feel more local, more relevant” to local consumers.

The result: the company is said to have generated, according to The New York Times, 14.9 billion, in revenue in the last 12 months.

On the subject of Netflix, while the future of Sacred Games starring Saif Ali Khan remains unclear, the production of Shah Rukh Khan and Netflix India’s collaborative effort, starring Emraan Hashmi, Bard of Blood, has begun in Leh. Under the banner of SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix India, the web series, based on Bilal Siddiqui’s book, The Bard Of Blood, will make its debut. According to SRK, the web series is “one of the most exciting stuff Red Chillies” is doing at the moment. The eight-episode series is expected to premiere next year and also features actors Vineet Kumar Singh, Kirti Kulhari and Sobhita Dhulipala.
