Since parting ways with Coke Studio last year, Strings, hitting a 30-year landmark as a band, decided to not name their next album 30. They also announced plans to release a new album with the said name. Doing it without the backing of a record label for the first time, the band also announced that each single would be accompanied by a music video.

At least one video would be directed by Jami, who directed some of the band’s most iconic videos but the band also experimented with younger names.

They began with ‘Sajni’, a bouncy track backed by a neon- dream music video, directed by Yasir Jaswal. It was Strings celebrating their return to what they do best. They followed it up with ‘Urr Jaoon’, which not only reunited them with director Jami but is also easily of the best songs of the year.

The third music video, backed by Cornetto Pop Rock, ruined the sweet melody of ‘Piya Re’, but Strings recovered strongly with ‘Mil Gaya’, with a video by Kamal Khan. At least two of these four songs (‘Urr Jaoon’ and ‘Mil Gaya’) are written by Bilal Maqsood. And it looks like it’s not over yet. As the band shared a new image with the title ‘Hum Dono’ on their social media sites, we got curious to find out more.

The upcoming video, ‘Hum Dono’, scheduled to release in the first week of October is directed by Sohaib Akhtar. Bilal Maqsood has once again penned the words and the single will feature the multi-talented Natasha Noorani on the vocals as well though not in the video.

Somewhere in there, they were also roped in as co-judges for the recently concluded third season of Pepsi Battle of the Bands but it’s 30 that could set a benchmark for other mainstream artists to follow.
