Making a comeback to the silver screen with Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 this Eid-ul-Azha, the actor talks to Instep about her character and much more.

British-Pakistani actor Kubra Khan, who made her cinematic debut with Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi’s Na Maloom Afraad in 2014, will return to the big screen with Nadeem Baig’s highly anticipated film, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 (JPNA 2) this Eid-ul-Azha.

In a short span of time, Kubra Khan has proved her mettle and comes across as a versatile actor. She stepped into the entertainment industry with a film in 2014 and then made her TV debut two years later with drama serial, Sang-e-Mar Mar (2016), alongside veteran actors Nauman Ijaz, Sania Saeed and Mikaal Zulfiqar.

Since then Kubra has been delivering memorable performances in popular TV projects such as Alif Allah aur Insaan, Muqabil and the most recent Daldal.

Coming back to her latest venture, Kubra looks promising in the JPNA 2 trailer. Instep got in touch with the actor to know more about her part in the upcoming romantic comedy.

“All I can say is that in JPNA 2, I play the part of a sporty and happy-go-lucky kind of girl,” she told Instep on the sidelines of the trailer launch that took place at the new branch of Nueplex Cinemas in Karachi. “I would say she is a bit of a tomboy and it is very similar to my character in real life. So that is one similarity there but other than that I will not be able to reveal more about my character as of yet.”

As far as the trailer is concerned, the three-minute clip clearly suggests that the boys are back with a bang. While actors Humayun Saeed, Vasay Chaudhry, Ahmed Ali Butt, Sarwat Gilani and Uzma Khan are reprising their roles, there are some new faces that have joined the cast including Fahad Mustafa, in a never-seen-before avatar along with Mawra Hocane and Kubra Khan. And they have surely impressed the audience with their performances in the trailer. JPNA 2 also features veteran actor Sohail Ahmed and Indian actor Kanwaljit Singh in interesting roles.

Moreover, in the trailer we see glimpses of the cross border connection. When asked whether her character in the film has something to do with that, Kubra said, “Well, the trailer is here and with the movie releasing soon, you will just have to wait and watch. This is something I cannot disclose as yet.”

Regarding the expectations she has from JPNA 2, Kubra shared, “I have really high hopes. We have all worked so hard, we have worked in odd weather, we’ve faced every situation as a team and everyone was supportive of each other.”

“To sum it up, we have worked as a family, and the director created a very homely environment for all of us,” she continued. “And this helped in overcoming all odds and I hope the film becomes a blockbuster, just like its prequel that broke all kinds of records at the box office.”

Talking about her other film Parwaaz Hai Junoon (PHJ) that is also scheduled to release on Eid-ul-Azha, Kubra said, “I have a special appearance in the film, which has been directed by Haseeb Hassan, so there is nothing much I can say about that. Though, it is a cameo, I am still looking forward to it as PHJ has an ensemble cast including Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ahad Raza Mir, Hania Aamir and Shaz Khan among others.”

Responding to whether we will see her on the big screen more or on television, Kubra stated, “TV has made me what I am today and I believe that you should never forget your core. So you will see me in both mediums.”

Currently Kubra Khan is working on a drama serial, Alif with Hamza Ali Abbasi and Sajal Aly. Additionally, there is a new movie in the pipeline, which we’ll be hearing about from the actor in the near future.
