Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who recently completed 30 years in Hindi cinema, was offered to play the role of late Sunil Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic Sanju. Though, Aamir Khan shared a strong bond with with the late Sunil Dutt, the Dangal actor refused it only because he wanted to essay the title character in the upcoming biopic based on the life of Sanjay Dutt.

“He (Hirani) approached me with the script and I loved it; he wanted me to play Dutt sahab’s role,” Aamir Khan said while interacting with the media in an event celebrating his 30 years in the industry. “It is a fantastic role and the story is largely on the father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable.”

The actor added, “I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt’s role is so wonderful that it won my heart. So in this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s, which of course I cannot do because Ranbir (Kapoor) is playing it. So, don’t offer me any other role as I won’t be able to do it. I can’t come to the sets thinking these should have been my lines.”

Aamir Khan also revealed how moved he was when he saw Ranbir Kapoor essaying Sanjay Dutt’s character on screen and he’s sure that Ranbir has done a good job. “I cannot wait to watch the film now,” stated Aamir, who has worked closely with Hirani in films like 3 Idiots and PK.

After Aamir turned down the role of Sunil Dutt, the part went to Paresh Rawal. Sanju is all set to hit theatres on June 29.

On the work front, Aamir Khan will be next seen in Thugs of Hindostan that also features veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role.
