Has Robert Downey Jr. let slip that Captain America gets killed off in Infinity War?

In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Iron Man gives away the scoop.

Avengers: Infinity War trailer

One major character is going to die in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s been more-or-less confirmed by both Marvel Studio’s top dog Kevin Feige and a member of the writing team behind the third installment in the comic book blockbusters. The three most popular – and likely – characters in the running are the three founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Cap. aka Steven Rogers has especially been one of the favourites to bite the dust, and the latest jaw-dropping trailer for the film only fuelled speculation about whether he would live following his showdown with Thanos. Well, it seems that Robert Downey Jr. has let-slip that Chris Evans’ character will exit the MCU before Tony stark does, as he said he’d miss it when Chris isn’t ‘Cap anymore’.

“All I know is that there’s something about being on camera with [Chris] Evans. I hate to say it, but I don’t know what I’m gonna do when he’s not Cap anymore,” he told Empire Magazine. “I look at him and think this is the truest, most down moral psychology I’ve ever seen and then they go, ‘Cut!’ and Chris is like, ‘Hey buddy, I gotta get out of here.’ I’m like, ‘You wanna go to dinner?’ ‘Nope.’ ‘Okay! Love you! Love you, Cap! I mean, Chris!’” Surely… that’s more than a little bit of a hint that RDJ is going to be feeling lonesome on set when Avengers 4 kicks into production? Setting aside the fact that he just shook our entire world, it’s literally the most adorable thing we’ve heard the Sherlock Holmes star say – possibly ever.

But it shines a light on something that all fans of the MCU know. We will miss Chris when Steve quite possibly disappears from the franchise. In fact, some fans care so much that they’ve even questioned if its right that Marvel Studios let Cap die a virgin, because let’s face it, between being frozen in ice for an abnormally long time and saving the world time and time again… he’s not had much time for personal matters. The whole question of a major death was address by Feige and writer Stephen McFeely in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The notion of an ending, the notion of a finale, became very intriguing to us, in large part because you don’t see it that often in this particular genre,” said the President of Marvel Studios. Something which was then seemingly confirmed by screenwriter Stephen McFeely, who added: “It’s safe to say we will say farewell to people.” Sounds like it’s quite possibly a good time to start preparing ourselves to mourn the passing of the First Avenger.
