Pakistan’s most enduring music group, Strings, is on the comeback trail and as news of this return to their own brand of music gains traction, the press as well as fans have embraced it with just the right attitude and emotion.

Celebrating 30 years of music this year, Strings (featuring Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia) have been in the studio for some time, working on new material, which includes collaborating with longtime lyricist Anwar Maqsood.

In a press statement released last week, the band revealed that they plan to release eight new songs (as singles) with the first two tracks being, ‘Sajni’ and ‘Urr Jaaon‘.

In addition to a press statement, the band unveiled a stunning atmospheric teaser that is reminiscent of the aesthetics this group is known and cherished for.

As this story develops, more news has reached us. One is that the band is reuniting with director Jamshed Mahmood, better known as Jami, for a new music video. Jami confirmed the news himself on Facebook while commenting on the band’s new teaser video. He first wrote a comment on the video, stating: “30 years and still rocking.” When a fan responded to Jami’s presence and wrote, “I hope you will be contacted again for some amazing videos”, the longtime Strings collaborator confirmed that he’s working with the band again and stated, “Just finished one yesterday.”

Bilal Maqsood confirmed to Instep that the video in question is ‘Urr Jaaon’.

The long artistic relationship between the band and the director has resulted in several iconic videos such as ‘Duur’, ‘Anjaane’ ‘Aankhen’, ‘Dhaani’, ‘Chaaye Chaaye’, ‘Humsafar’, ‘Jago’, ‘Ab Khud Kuch Karna Parega’ and ‘Main Tou Dekhonga’.

Strings also produced the original soundtrack of Jami’s exceptional film, Moor that released in the year 2015. In addition to working with artists such as Javed Bashir and Meesha Shafi, the OST also featured Strings with two songs (‘Tum Ho, ‘Ku Ku Ku’).

As for why the band is opting to release their songs as singles and not an as an album, Faisal Kapadia, in an interview, explained that as times have changed in the digital age, this is simply their way of keeping up with the shift. “We will be releasing one video every month for the next one year. We feel this is the best solution to move forward in this digital world.”– Maheen Sabeeh
