Asim Abbasi’s upcoming directorial debut, Cake featuring Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik, is all set to hit cinemas on March 30, 2018. The film has an unusual title and a very warm feel to it, something we witnessed in the recently released teaser.

Explaining the connection of the film with ‘cake’, Sanam Saeed shared at a recent event, “There is a lot of cake in the film, but I never get to eat it. I make a mess of it. Cake is a universal symbol and it is present on all occasions.”

Also present on the occasion, the director reflected on the film’s title as well. “The film does have something to do with cake but that’s not why we named the film Cake,” Abbasi informed. “I was sick and tired of very obvious and on the nose titles. For me, it marks the passage of time. Cakes are present on a lot of occasions in the film; they’re there at weddings and birthdays, etc.”

Speaking about the way Cake is being promoted, unlike a lot of other films in the past, the director noted that it was a deliberate effort. “One has to stand out from the clutter,” he said. “Every film is different, thus the marketing approach is separate. The response has been great. We took some risks with the character posters that came out. A lot of people told us not to do it, that people would want to see the faces, but we trusted our gut instincts and it paid off.”

Cake revolves around the story of dysfunctional family where lack of communication leads to serious consequences.
