2018 certainly looks promising with several Pakistani films slated to release in the first quarter of the year.

After January release Parchi, the next in line is Maan Jao Na that is all set to release on February 2, 2018. The movie introduces us to a new face Naaz Norouzi as the leading actress of the movie alongside Adeel Choudary, Ali Gul Pir, Asif Raza Mir among others. The story revolves around Raania (essayed by Naaz) who does not believe in love or marriage. However, life has other plans for her.

Another film slated to release on the same day as Maan Jao Na is Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor. This animated film, directed and written by Uzair Zaheer Khan, tells the story of a young boy called Allahyar who lives in the northern areas of Pakistan and his journey to save his family from troubles. The cast of the film includes Ali Noor, Anum Zaidi, Azfar Jafri, Natasha Humera Ejaz alongside Ali Rehman Khan, Hareem Farooq, Arshad Mehmood, Nadia Jamil, Amjad Chaudhry and Ahmed Ali.

In 2018, we will also see a horror film called Pari. Directed by Syed Atif Ali, the horror movie revolves around a couple and their young daughter, and their battle between good and evil. Pari will release on the same day as Maan Jao Na and Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor.

In February, we will also see the release of Azad. The film follows the story of a radio jockey who calls himself ‘azad’ but gradually learns that he is en-caged in his own past. The film starring Sanam Saeed and Rehan Sheikh in lead roles is a comedic commentary on media and narrates the story of a Pakistan-based radio jockey who tries to balance life and career in an almost dystopian environment. Azad was initially scheduled to release in late 2016, but will now come out on February 9.

In March comes Asim Abbasi’s directorial debut, Cake. Featuring Sanam Saeed, Aamina Sheikh and Adnan Malik in pivotal roles, the film promises to be a good addition to Pakistani cinema with its unique treatment of characters, ideas and a story that is relatable.
