Netflix, the streaming giant that lured executive producer Shonda Rhimes from ABC Network leading to strong speculation that the era of the network is over, is on a roll it seems and has no plans of slowing down. One of their upcoming projects includes backing a Paul Greengrass film about the terrorist attack in Norway in 2011.

Empire reports: “Greengrass film will chronicle the horrific violence inflicted by Anders Behring Breivik, a self-described right-wing Christian extremist who hated Muslims. He detonated a fertilizer bomb outside the Prime Minister’s headquarters, killing eight people. After that, he donned a police uniform, took a ferry ride to a nearby island and murdered teenagers attending a Labor Party Youth Camp. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison, the maximum allowed by Norwegian law.”

The English director, known for directing Jason Bourne, Captain Phillips, Green Zone, The Bourne Ultimatum and United 93, is kicking off proceedings later this year and aims to shoot with local actors in Norway. Though the project is deemed controversial by some, Netflix is providing funding of 20 million dollars. This also means that the other Greengrass project, a film on Elliot Ness, is on hold. With films like United 93 that drew inspiration from real-life events, Greengrass is certainly qualified to spearhead the project. Whether or not he manages to avoid propaganda altogether remains to be seen.
