Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, becomes the highest earning summer movie at the domestic box office. Released just a month ago, the film is already the third biggest Warner Bros. movie ever after The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. What’s more interesting is the fact that it is the highest grossing live action film from a female director, which is sure to make way for more female directors to take the lead in future.

To top it off, Wonder Woman won Comic-Con at San Diego this weekend and during the Warner Bros. panel at the event, the studio confirmed that a sequel is underway.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, the director Jenkins hinted at the film’s sequel. She said, “The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

The director had also shared that she would be interested in directing Wonder Woman 2.

“I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”

It is also being said that Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince in the sequel as well.
