It truly is the end of an era. The front-man for Linkin Park, one of the most successful rock bands of our generation, Chester Bennington passed away on Thursday by hanging himself. He was found dead in his home near Los Angeles. According to the New York Times, the chief of operations for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, Brian Elias confirmed the death in Palos Verdes Estates, and said it was being investigated as a possible suicide after law enforcement authorities responded to a call shortly after 9 a.m.

Bennington’s death has come as a shock to many fans and other members of the music community world over. The star was struggling with depression for most of his life and went on record to talk about how he used his personal feelings to write song lyrics such as “Waiting for the end to come, wishing I had strength to stand. This is not what I had planned. It’s out of my control,” from one of Linkin Park’s best selling single ‘Waiting for the End.’

Many have also pointed out that Bennington’s death was on the same day as his late friend, Chris Cornell’s birthday. Cornell, who was front-man for Soundgarden and Audioslave, also committed suicide by hanging a few weeks ago. The two musicians were very close friends in their life. When Cornell passed away, Bennington had taken to Twitter to express his grief, “I can’t imagine a world without you in it.”
