Brad Pitt’s War Machine may not have done as well as expected but the actor is moving on to other projects.  According to Deadline, the actor is all set to star in Ad Astra, the working title “of the futuristic sci-fi epic that James Gray co-wrote and will direct for New Regency”.

Slated to on floors this September, early reports suggest that Pitt will be essaying the slightly autistic space engineer Roy McBride. “Twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, McBride travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.”

With Tommy Lee Jones in negotiations to star in the film as well, this film could be the break Pitt is looking for. With World War Z sequel pulled off the release calendar by Paramount, Pitt needs this film to materialize especially since a great deal of attention is also on his personal life  while recent projects like War Machine and Allied have bombed badly. Whether Ad Astra actually does manage this great big feat is another question but expect deep space dark vibes from this one.
