In Wajahat Rauf’s last film Karachi Se Lahore, actor-writer Yasir Hussain stood out more than anyone else for his impressive performance. Now the actor with a funny bone is gearing up for his television debut as the main lead. He will be playing the protagonist for the first time on the small screen in Wajahat Rauf’s upcoming drama, tentatively titled Shaadi.

“I’ve done supporting roles in a few TV plays including Dareecha but this one is my first serial as the protagonist,” Hussain told Instep in a quick telephonic conversation while he was shooting for the play in Karachi. “It’s a light-hearted story which has tragedy, romance as well as comedy. There’s no saas-bahu saga or rona dhona like most others plays. It’s closer to plays that we had in the 80s; they had some place for tragedy, romance and comedy – all at once.”

It is interesting to note that Hussain has also written the script of the play. He also wrote the script of Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore and Lahore Se Aagey, Anjum Shahzad’s Band Tou Bajega (that hasn’t released) and the dialogues for Asim Reza’s Ho Mann Jahaan.

Hussain also shared why he hasn’t done much work on television. “Acting for television is difficult compared to films,” he explained. “I have to do 300 scenes for a serial unlike films where I just do 80 scenes and same is the case with theatre where we have limited scenes.”

Coming back to his play Shaadi, Kubra Khan will be playing the lead oppsite Hussain while the drama also stars Asad Siddiqui and veteran actors Bushra Ansari and Salman Shahid in pivotal roles. Shaadi will be on air this Eid.
