Dobara Phir Se may have received mixed reviews but if there is one thing everyone unanimously agrees on, it’s the simple fact that Mehreen Jabbar remains a superlative filmmaker who always brings something fresh and thought provoking to the table. We don’t know when we’ll see her next feature film on the big screen but we do know that there is a short film that is ready to be screened at film festivals.

While Pakistan has not yet had the privilege of watching Lala Begum yet, the film is being released at an international film festival in Texas, U.S.A.

Directed and produced by Jabbar, Lala Begum was part of the Zeal for Unity project which brought six Pakistani and six Indian filmmakers together in attempt to bridge the divide between the two countries. Jabbar was one of the chosen filmmakers alongside Sabiha Sumar, Khalid Ahmed, Meenu-Farjad, Shahbaz Sumar and Siraj Ul Haq.

The 60-minute film features Marina Khan, Sonya Rehman Qureshi and Humayun Saeed in pivotal roles.

The film was scheduled to screen in Karachi as part of the I am Karachi Film Festival which was postponed due to growing security concerns in the country. Now the film is heading to the third DFW South Asian Film Festival, a platform that aims to promote the perspectives of the South Asian community by showcasing South Asian culture through cinema. The film will be screened today.
