Actress Kalki Koechlin has delivered many memorable performances. From Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara to Dev D, each performance has merit and an inherent appeal. But despite the evident diversity in her roles, Koechlin claims she has been typecast multiple times in the industry.

According to the Times of India, the actress stated, “After Dev D, I got offers for many roles of a prostitute, people offered me roles of a spoiled brat and a physically disabled (character) after the release of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Margarita with a Straw.”
Koechlin, however, believes that it’s an actor’s job to break the stereotype and make sure their work doesn’t become stagnant. “I think you are only as old as your last film,” she said. “However, it is my job to break that stereotype and choose the right script to change your image.”

Speaking about female-driven films, Koechlin stated, “In films like Queen and Piku, women are leading the film. Having said that, these films come few and far between. We must not forget that it will take a few generations to bring the complete change. The first generation will become aware, second generation puts it into practice and perhaps from third generation it will continue.”

Koechlin’s next includes Nicholas Kharkongor’s Mantra that features her alongside Rajat Kapoor, Shiv Pandit and Lushin Dubey.
