If the father of comic book mythology and hero to millions, Stan Lee, thinks you’re born to play a superhero, who are we to argue? Stan Lee was talking about Robert Downey Jr. (RBJ) who has played Iron Man with a kind of charisma that makes it hard to be indifferent to him. Appearing at Rhode Island Comic Con recently, Stan Lee said on the subject: “That man was born to be Iron Man, you know? He’d be on the top of the list. But, I have to say: whoever does the casting for Marvel is a genius. For instance, I can’t picture anyone being better than Thor.

But, I have to say: whoever does the casting for Marvel is a genius. For instance, I can’t picture anyone being better than Thor. Captain America? You couldn’t beat him.”

That endorsement aside, Robert Downey Jr. is apparently not too interested in coming back in another standalone Iron Man film. And because his contract with the studio is on a film by film basis, multiple reports suggest that RDJ may only reprise the role for the The Avengers movies. Of course, with the entrance of Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel universe as Doctor Strange, it’s entirely possible that the British star will take on the mantle from RDJ in the coming years ahead. Once RBJ hangs up his suit for good, the character will “disappear for a while” from the Marvel universe.

Meanwhile the actor himself has set his sights on a new goal: direction. RBJ and wife Susan Downey “are going into development on a new TV series called Singularity“. The series will feature Anthony Michael Hall in the lead while RBJ, aside from producing the series, will also direct its pilot episode and possibly more. In fact, according to one deal between RBJ’s production company Team Downey and a company called Sonar Entertainment, RBJ and wife Susan will oversee development of both scripted and unscripted shows.

For now, not much is known about Singularity but given the title, its most likely going to be a sci-fi affair and will explore subjects like human consciousness and artificial intelligence.
