Sanjay Leela Bhansali, having scored two back to back hits with Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani is hoping for a hat trick of success with the upcoming Padmavati. Aside from featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, the film will also feature Shahid Kapoor in a significant role. Several reports suggest that Singh is not too pleased with the casting of Shahid Kapoor, a story that has been dismissed by the latter.

“This is the stuff I’ve been reading in papers and I find it absurd when they say it is a two hero film,” Kapoor was quoted speaking on the issue. “The film has three principle characters. These are just ways of creating some kind of material which is exciting at some frivolous level.”

Adding that the film is a brilliant project for all involved, the Haider actor stated, “It’s a great opportunity for all three of us. It’s a great role for Deepika, a fantastic role for Ranveer and great one for me. I am happy that the film has been cast the way it has and it is getting made.”

The film, a historical period drama is the story of Rani Padmavati (essayed by Deepika Padukone), the second wife of Raja Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and the villainous Allaudin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) “who, enamoured by her beauty, wages a war to capture her”.  So, Deepika Padukone is Helen of Troy...

Work on the film is in pre-production stage while reports suggest that like previous SLB productions, this one too will have a sky-rocketing budget. And Bhansali is leaving no stone unturned to make this particular epic a visual spectacle like no other. The climactic battle sequence alone is costing Rs. 12 crores and “is expected to be the most spectacular battle ever fought on screen”.

A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama explained that the action in this film will be a step up from “the prolonged and FX-saturated battle scene in Bahubali“. Not just that but the film, touted as India’s most expensive costume drama to date, will skip out on CGI effects in entirety and every scene will be sketched on paper in intricate detail before shooting commences.
