Dear Ed,

Print is a dying medium. All over the world, newspapers are becoming redundant. Online issues of newspapers and magazines boast a very large readership, especially compared to the print medium. Is that why you have stopped paying attention to your print version? I would like to point out that in Pakistan many people don’t have the facility to peruse their favourite periodicals online. So, please make the mag more attractive in terms of paper quality and design.

Dear Ed,

In the issue of 11 March, the article ‘Gravitational waves’ by Abdul Moiz was good but it was somewhat sketchy. The writer seemed in a hurry to wind up this complex subject in as few words as possible. Still, at least someone tried attempting a science subject. Which reminds me that ‘Study and research’ by Waqas Hassan Sharif has been missing for a long time. Also, the magazine is too serious and needs to carry some light stuff for readers who wish to relax. One page of ‘Comic Relief’ is not enough! Rest is cool.

Dear Ed,

I am sure you will print this letter as it’s my first one to you. I am a regular reader, and enjoy the mag mostly. I would like to commend ‘Parks and Recreation’ (March 4) by Asif Nawaz. He is my favourite writer. I wanted to write earlier but due to my examination I had to restrain myself. ‘Comic Relief’ is always fun to read and please publish more interviews of celebs.

Dear Ed,

This is my first letter to you, so please print it. I am a new reader but I hope to become an old reader of this magazine. I found a copy of Us in my school library, and found it worth reading because there is a lot of variety in it. Please keep up the good work!

Dear all,

On 23 March, the nation enjoys a holiday to observe the Pakistan Day. We are sure some of you had had your activities planned beforehand. Karachiites have this tendency to rush out to the beach to litter it,  while people in the northern areas probably went hiking! Those who didn’t have the benefit of these activities probably slept 23 March  away. No harm in celebrating the great day, especially since things have improved somewhat in the recent months, but take a few moments to think about what this day should mean to us (except for it being it a hol).

In 1940, in the great city of Lahore, resolution for Pakistan was endorsed. From that day onwards, Muslims of Indo Pakistan did not look back till they got their coveted home. So, let’s make a resolution to honour Pakistan Resolution. Something small, but significant. Like may be an oath to ourselves  to not litter our country.... Like may be a determination to inform the uneducated people how harmful gutka is for their health. Or, a resolve to be kind and speak pleasantly to people we come across. As Julia Carney says:

Little deeds of kindness,

Little words of love,

Make our pleasant earth below

Like the heaven above.

Till next time,

Allah hafiz

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A)

A man demanded his debts from Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) in such a rude manner that the companions of the Prophet intended to harm him, but the Prophet said, “Leave him, no doubt, for he (the creditor) has the right to demand it (harshly). Buy a camel and give it to him.” They said, “The camel that is available is older than the camel he demands.” The Prophet said, “Buy it and give it to him, for the best among you are those who repay their debts handsomely.”
