Dear Editor,

Assalamoalaikum!

I am just writing to say a big thank you for publishing “Faizanama” (26 Feb). It was a treat to read. Can’t praise it enough. Well done!

Dear Editor,

I am a contributor of your ‘Poets’ Corner’. But since 11 Dec 2015, this section has been missing. We wait for ‘Poets’ Corner’ so kindly let us know the reason why it is not published regularly.

Masood ur Rahman

Sometimes, due to lack of space, we have to drop one of our regular pages. We will try to not disappoint you in future :)

Hi Ed,

I am probably the very first reader of your today’s issue (4th March 2016) as I’m writing to you in so much detail during early hours. I haven’t gone through the entire magazine at the moment. However, a letter published by an 18 year-old girl in the Trust Us section caught my eye. The “Badly Trapped Girl” discussed her problem of falling in love after every heart-break. It’s a common issue among teenagers. The answer to her problem was very short and not helpful enough to let her decide the best.

Dearest Ed,

Apologies for being a lazy sloth who hasn’t written to you in a long, long while! I was planning to continue this self-imposed hibernation (even though it’s not winters anymore) but this week’s cover story, ‘Parks and recreation’ pulled me out of my intoxicated state of tardiness! I’ve always admired your contributors for being the top-notch writers that they are, but why does Muhammad Asif Nawaz rank among the top order of this already very top-ordered list is something only God knows! Perhaps because, the writer has this charming ability to personify inanimate objects with such effortlessness it’s unbelievable? Or maybe, his pen yields (black?) magic! I’m guessing we’d never know for sure! All said and done, I loved this week’s cover story. Also, it was way better than the one on Karachi so cheers for that, haha! :D (Yes, I’m biased! :p)

Since you’re all bearing with me already, let me take this moment to appreciate the fact that Faizanama was a befitting tribute to one of the finest gems this mag has produced. Reading all those old snippets from her stories just reminded me of her wonderfulness -and the fact that I’m getting on in years! *Wipes off tears*

Wishing Team Us continues to come up with brilliant issues every week! :)

Dear Ed,

Faizanama was fabulous. Way to go, Faiza!

Sharmeen Obaid’s Oscar

Assalamualikum Ed!

It always feels great to read about our people doing amazing work throughout the globe and projecting a better image of our country. It gives us a moment to think how our people are excelling in this fast moving world and leaving their impressions of brilliance behind. Yet, there are quite a few people who stand up and take a brave decision to fight and eradicate the ills that are eating up our society. Yes, I’m talking about Miss Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. By highlighting the serious problems faced by us and bringing it to the attention of our Government, she is making a huge impact and has emerged as a ray of hope for those who have been the victim of these crimes. It makes me feel sad how people are posting negative comments about her on the Facebook, saying that she has nothing better to do except showing the negative side of Pakistan. Can’t they see how her documentaries are catching the so-needed attention of our Government and are making such a huge impact that amendments in the law are being made? People ought to show a lot more respect and appreciation for her work.

Narrated by Anas (R.A)

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed.” A man said, “O Allah’s Apostle! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?” The Prophet said, “By preventing him from oppressing (others), for that is how to help him.
