Here’s all you need to know about Deepika-Ranveer’s wedding festivities that kick-started on Tuesday:
Engagement ceremony
This year’s most anticipated wedding kicked off with an engagement ceremony where Ranveer went down on his knees to propose to ladylove Deepika.
According to India Today, Ranveer and Deepika exchanged rings in the presence of family and friends in the picturesque location of Lake Como, after a Phool Muddi ceremony.
Phool Muddi ceremony
As per Konkani traditions, the Phool Muddi ceremony entails the bride’s father welcoming the bridegroom’s parents. Deepika’s father Prakash Padukone gave Ranveer a coconut and formally welcomed him to the family.
Mehndi ceremony
What followed next were vibrant mehndi and sangeet ceremonies held at two different locations. Ranveer’s ceremony took place at the CastaDiva Resort, overlooking Lake Como while Deepika’s function took place at Villa d’Este, which is about five kilometers away.
According to DNA, what was different about the ceremony was that male attendees had also applied henna or mehndi on their palms.
The surroundings of the scenic Lake Como echoed with the tunes of ‘London Thumakda’ and ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’. Singers Harshdeep Kaur and Shubha Mugdal enthralled the members during the mehndi ceremony. While Harshdeep sang traditional numbers, Shubha performed Thumri songs.
The ceremony also played Bollywood songs. Ranveer reportedly made a dramatic entry, dancing to his song, Tune Maari Entriyan (Gunday) while Harshdeep sang a number of sings such as Mehndi Ni Mehndi, Dholak, Kala Shah Kala, Mehendi Hai Rachney Wali.
Sangeet ceremony
Deepika and Ranveer were colour-coordinated on their sangeet ceremony, Mumbai Mirror reported. The bride and groom had both donned Sabyasachi attires that were in shades of pink and red.
Deepika was reportedly seen getting teary-eyed as Ranveer comforted her. Pinkvilla quoted a guest as saying: “Shubha Mudgal was performing a thumri when Deepika Padukone got emotional and was in tears. When she broke down, Ranveer, who could understand her emotional state, walked up to her and hugged her tight and consoled his lady love. He ensured she was smiling again with all his crazy love antics.”
Deepika and Ranveer will be a married couple after their Konkani-style wedding held today. Tomorrow, to pay homage to Ranveer’s Sindhi heritage, the couple will celebrate their union as per Sindhi traditions.
