LAHORE: Pakistan’s middle-order batsman and Test cricketer Umar Akmal has struck in yet another controversy after he scuffled with officials of Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control over fancy number plate.

Sources said Umar Akmal was heading to the National Cricket Academy when he was stopped by officials near Kulary ground as part of their drive to weed out illegal number plates.

Geo News quoted Akmal as saying that officials misbehaved with him despite recognizing him as national player.

However, the issue was resolved after sometime.

Past Controversies

This is not the first time Umar Akmal has caught in the controversy.

In 2014, the Test cricketer Umar Akmal was charged for allegedly assaulting a traffic warden following a heated argument.

He was jailed for a day after fighting a traffic warden who stopped him for breaking a traffic signal.

The incident happened when Umar Akmal violated a traffic signal and then not only had a heated argument with the traffic warden but also threatened him.

Akmal was also accused of fighting with a gate keeper at Gaddafi stadium in Lahore who refused entry to his car in 2014.

Umar Akmal was also caught in Hyderabad attending a dance party and was filmed watching a drama at a theatre in Faisalabad.

Some media reports suggested that Umar Akmal was involved in a scuffle with the crew of the drama that was being staged at the theatre.

Akmal was dropped from Pakistan´s one-day squad after the World Cup 2015 on the recommendation of then coach Waqar Younis who labelled him as an undisciplined and a selfish player, though he has since made a comeback.
