Police said a student fell from a balcony at Benjamin Franklin High School in Los Angeles
Authorities said an investigation is underway at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park after a student died after a fall on campus on Wednesday.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with users calling for action against the student who reportedly had a fight with the deceased before he fell.
Police said the student fell from a balcony at Benjamin Franklin High School.. The circumstances surrounding the fall were unclear. Officials identified the victim only as a male juvenile.
According to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, the incident took place at around 1 p.m. at the school in the 800 block of North Avenue 54.
LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes said few details were immediately available about why he fell, but there is “no evidence of foul play.”
Students who spoke with a local TV said a fight in a classroom preceded the fatal fall.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported the minor to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
