Manchester City CEO breaks silence on Premier League verdict: ‘Conspiracy theory’

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano broke silence over Premier League verdict ruling in which the club was guilty of all charges related to breaching Premier League’s financial rules.

In a message sent to the staff, Soriano accused the Premier League of issuing a ruling based on “single false accusation” while maintaining the innocence of the club.

"The whole Premier League case against us is based on a single false accusation – that the owner's personal money was somehow and secretly put into the club via some sponsors from Abu Dhabi," Soriano said in a message to staff.”

"This is just not true.”

"Irrefutable evidence has been provided to the Premier League commission that shows it could not happen and that it did not happen.”

He continued, “Every other false charge that has been thrown at us comes from that simple, central and completely false accusation. Surprisingly for us and our lawyers after nearly two years the commission has issued an opinion that supports the Premier League’s conspiracy theory.”

"To do so, the opinion had to ignore the extensive evidence provided by the club in order to reach a conclusion that is clearly wrong," Soriano added.

Speaking about the filing of an appeal, he said our lawyers will now file an appeal that sets out the opinion containing clear, material errors of law, principle and fact and that it is unsafe.

Man City can file an appeal against the verdict till October 2. Though the club has been guilty of charges, it is still awaiting sanctions.

CEO’s response comes after the independent commission had found that the club had overstated its income by over “£830m during the nine-year period covered by the investigation and arranged sham commercial deals with a number of sponsors.”
