Jill Dando murder case: Piers Morgan reacts as police reexamine 1999 CCTV footage

Technological advances have allowed police to revisit old CCTV footage linked to the unresolved murder of the BBC broadcaster Jill Dando.

The upgrades in CCTV enhancement have allowed investigators to return to 27-year-old footage of Putney Bridge Underground Station but detectives have underlined that the review falls within the scope of ongoing investigations, not a new investigation.

Piers Morgan reacted to this case stating, “Always seemed more likely to be a trained assassin than a lone weirdo given the way Jill was executed with one shot and how the killer evaded capture…”

In light of the given situation, a Met spokesperson said: “In the 27 years since Jill Dando’s murder, the investigation has been subject to numerous reviews, aiming to identify whether matters could be progressed with advances in technology and forensics.”

“Recent advancements in CCTV enhancement technology have provided investigators with the opportunity to re-examine original footage from Putney Bridge train station.”

The detective who led the investigation into Dando’s murder expressed in 2019 that the case would never be solved. Hamish Campbell said he did not think any new suspect would ever be brought to court while speaking in a BBC documentary to mark 20 years since the television presenter’s shooting.

In addition, Dando’s partner, Alan Farthing was also interviewed by police with her former partner and BBC Breakfast news editor Bob Wheaton; meanwhile interviewing her agent Jon Roseman highlighted a fictional scene in his novel that nearly mirrors the real-life crime detailing a very similar scenario.
