Is YouTube ignoring one of its most basic Android bugs?

A bug that started annoying YouTube users back in April is still unresolved five months later, and it's hitting one of the app's most basic functions: watching a video in full-screen landscape mode. On Android, suggested video thumbnails are overlapping the bottom of the screen, blocking the progress bar and the video timer entirely.

The issue only shows up when watching YouTube in landscape orientation on Android. Suggested video recommendations render over the bottom portion of the screen, covering both the progress bar and the running timer.

That makes scrubbing, the common habit of dragging a finger along the progress bar to jump to a specific moment, impossible for anyone hitting the bug, since there's nothing left to tap or drag.

This is not a new issue either, as u/gingerbookwormlol reported about it in April through a screenshot of the overlap. Complaints have been coming in steadily throughout.

The second discussion, which is more recent and was created about two weeks ago, prompted a reply from someone who seemed to be a Google employee. In response to the problem posted, the user gave some suggestions, but not a solution.

The first suggestion is to close the app and make sure that it is fully up-to-date. The next suggestion is to change the video orientation from landscape to portrait and back to landscape.

If this does not resolve the problem, the users can find out whether the bug only occurs on certain videos or try to access YouTube by using its mobile website instead of the application. All those who cannot solve the problem should report it via Settings> Please send feedback, including the picture with the overlapping controls.

This issue has been existing for almost five months already.
