Reform UK Wales leader Dan Thomas resigns after police investigation

Reform UK’s Dan Thomas has reportedly resigned as its leader of Wales after being arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling or coercive behavior on Sunday.

According to a Gwent Police report, a 45-year-old man from Aberbargoed in Caerphilly was bailed awaiting further investigation.

In a statement released by his party Thomas said he was formally announcing his resignation due to personal circumstances. He further added that he had been released without charge.

In this connection, Thomas said: “I stress that I have done nothing wrong, but I do not want the coming headlines to be a distraction from the fantastic work our Senedd team is doing in holding this government to account."

“With deep regret, I am now standing down from this position due to personal reasons.”

Gwent Police clarified that on Sunday, a 45-year-old man from the Aberbargoed area was arrested on suspicion of assault and engaging in coercive behavior.

Thomas stated at a conference earlier this year that he was born and raised in the Valleys before moving to London to pursue a career in financial services; moreover he insists he has done anything wrong but wants to shield his team from disruptions to their work holding the government accountable.
