Royal family shares Princess Astrid's funeral plan
Princess Astrid had been considered the oldest working royal in Europe at the time of her death
The Norway royal family has announced the funeral plans of Princess Astrid, an older sister of late King Harald, who died on Friday at the age of 94.
The palace announced on its official website, “Princess Astrid’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Ris Church in Oslo.”
Earlier on September 11, the royal family announced the death of Princess Astrid.
The Palace issued the statement, “His Majesty the King has received with great sadness the news of the passing of Princess Astrid. The Princess fell asleep today, Friday 11 September, at the age of 94.”
King Haakon VIII, Princess Astrid’s nephew, also shared his condolences for his late aunt.
He said, “Throughout her long life, Princess Astrid represented the Royal House in a warm and dutiful manner."
Astrid's brother Harald died last month, aged 89, after more than 35 years on the throne, and the princess made her last public appearance at his funeral on last Wednesday.
Prince William also attended the funeral of Harald as a representative of his father, King Charles, while Princess Anne attended in a private capacity, as the godmother of the new King Haakon.
Princess Astrid had been considered the oldest working royal in Europe at the time of her death and was one of the five remaining great-grandchildren of King Edward VII.
