Serena, Venus Williams awarded US open doubles wild card

Serena and Venus Williams have officially received a main-draw wild card to compete in the women's doubles tournament at the US Open.

The iconic duo who has captured 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals together are set for a high-profile reunion at Flushing Meadows.

The historic return marks the first time the sisters have played doubles at the US Open since 2022, which served as the final chapter of Serena's storied singles career before her competitive return this summer.

The sisters have played in the women's doubles competition nine times before. They previously won the New York doubles crown together in 1999 and 2009.

Serena exited the mixed doubles tournament with partner Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The pair recently renewed their partnership at the Cincinnati Open following Serena's return to the tour. Serena also teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz for a blockbuster run in the US Open mixed doubles, reaching the quarterfinals.

The 23-times Grand Slam champion, returned to the court for the first time in nearly four years at the Queen's Club Championships in London in June.

While Serena is sitting out the singles draw, 46-year-old Venus has also been granted a separate wild card to compete in the women's singles main draw.

As reported, the US Open women's doubles matches are slated to begin on September 3, with the final scheduled for September 11.
