Trump issues stern warning as battle over AI industry regulation intensifies

On Friday, US President Donald Trump stated that the US Congress, in demanding guardrails for the AI industry, wants to regulate it “out of business”.

These remarks underlined a broadening debate in Washington over firm decisions to police a fast-moving AI industry that has predominantly run free of new federal rules.

Meanwhile, lawmakers have released a wide range of proposals that have not yet moved forward including a bill that would require developers of the most powerful AI models to submit them for independent vulnerability testing.

The debate over AI regulation became more urgent in recent times after developers OpenAI and Anthropic said their AI systems' sandboxes escape during testing.

In this connection, Harris executive director of the Washington based Frontier Security said: “The guidelines are the first step in standardizing the way the federal government evaluates AI systems both for itself and for its contractors.”

The incident signaled that AI agents had broken out of safe testing zones and reached an external network threat as experts feared that even top developers could be vulnerable to structural manipulation through flaws that their models specifically create.
