Xbox delays Fable to 2027, clears path for GTA 6
New look at Fable is confirmed for the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7
Xbox has officially delayed Fable to February 2027, a move announced ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026. Developer Playground Games, fresh off shipping Forza Horizon 6, needs more time to finish its long-awaited RPG reboot.
According to a post made by Xbox to its official X account, the company is facing a highly unusual schedule, as several games are set to launch in late 2025.
These include both Xbox's first-party titles such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and third-party big releases like Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto VI.
It can be assumed that Xbox has decided to delay the game so that it gets the chance to receive the recognition it needs rather than being overshadowed by all the other titles released around the same time.
Playground Games was tasked with reviving the Fable franchise when it had already established itself by working on its signature series called Forza Horizon in a completely different genre.
Despite these factors, the delay to February 2027 provides Playground Games with a whole extra year despite not mentioning anything specific regarding development problems.
On the official Fable X account, Playground offered a brief message to fans waiting to return to Albion. The studio acknowledged the news "stings" but told players it "won't be much longer" before they're back in the game's morally flexible world.
A new look at Fable is confirmed for the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, likely the studio's most significant public showing of the game to date.
