Scooter Braun gets candid about epic Taylor Swift fallout
Scooter Braun says he learned valuable lessons from the epic Taylor Swift public fallout
The feud of Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun is widely known in the industry.
It began seven years ago when the record executive bought the Carolina hitmaker's music catalog.
Though not directly from the Grammy winner.
Instead, Swift's first six albums' master recordings were stored at Big Machine Records.
Braun's Ithaca Holdings acquired it in 2019 for $300 million.
In response, Swift was devastated.
She publicly said she did not get a chance at the time to buy her life's work.
So, in turn, she re-recorded her first four albums and also later purchased all of the master recordings.
But Braun, who is now looking back at the controversy, is "confused" why the controversy occurred in the first place.
In his view, he was turned into a villain overnight after the controversy.
He reflected on the feud while appearing on Second Thought podcast.
"I don't know Taylor Swift," he said, adding, "I think I've met her in my life three times."
"I have never had a substantial conversation with her in my life."
Braun recalled before buying Swift's catalog, she invited him to a party.
"I got invited to a private party by her. She told me she had the utmost respect for me."
"I told her I had the most respect for her," the investor recounted.
"You don't spend $300 million buying a label that she's on unless you're excited at the opportunity to work with her."
Notably, Braun shared he "never had any contact" with Swift during the process of buying her former label.
But when she called him out on Tumblr at the time, the 44-year-old said he was "just as confused that this is part of my life as you are."
Though after the public fallout, Braun said he learned valuable lessons.
"I chose to learn and grow from it. I’m grateful for it at this point in my life."
In conclusion, Braun said, "To this day, I will never truly understand that situation. I wish her nothing but the best."
