West Ham's lionhearted legend Billy Bonds dies at 79
Former Hammers captain and club legend Billy Bonds passed away on November 30,2025
In a sad breaking news received on Sunday, November 30, 2025, West Ham United's legend Billy Bonds had peacefully passed away at age 79.
During a remarkable 21-year spell as a player, Bonds made nearly 800 appearances for the Hammers, captaining twice for FA Cup glory in 1975 and 1980.
The football legend was one of the most beloved characters ever to be associated with the East London club, who announced his death with ‘deep sadness.’
"He was devoted to his family and was the most kind, loyal, selfless, and loving person.” The lionhearted Billy Bonds’s family was also shattered in tears, as they expressed in a statement, “We are heartbroken to announce that we lost our beloved dad today and He will always be in our hearts and eternally missed."
"Dad loved West Ham United and its wonderful supporters with all his heart and treasured every moment of his time at the club, and we take comfort knowing that his legacy will live on forever,"Billy's family expressed.
The West Ham club added,"A period of appreciation to honor Billy will be held before kickoff at the Premier League home fixture v Liverpool, and a full tribute will take place at our next home fixture against Aston Villa, on Sunday,December 14,2025."
The club informed, "Further tributes will also appear across club channels in the coming days—rest in peace, Billy, our courageous, inspirational, lion-hearted leader."
Billy Bonds passed away peacefully while sleeping but the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
Additionally, Charlton Athletic, Bonds’ only other club, also paid a heartfelt social media tribute.
