Tom Brady just revealed one of the most surprising pieces of news of his post-NFL life.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner revealed that his new dog, named Junie, is actually a clone of his late pit bull mix, Lua, who died in December 2023.
The cloning was carried out at a Dallas-based biotech company, Colossal Biosciences, that Brady personally ventured.
Tom Brady shared the news to People, saying, “The company used a blood sample collected before Lua’s passing to create Junie.”
Calling Lua a beloved member of his family, former NFL champion said, “The procedure gave him a second chance with his best friend.”
But his fans are divided; some find it touching, while others call it “unnatural” and “disturbing.”
Junie, as per Brady’s account, shares Lua’s exact DNA but not the same personality traits.
“She’s the same soul, just a little different energy," Brady described.
Netizens were quick in their reaction, some praised Brady for his emotional connection, while others raised eye-brows if cloning pets was an ethical violation.
One such user criticized Brady's decision: "This is how a horror movie starts. Too much money and no idea what to spend it on. Life is special because it comes to an end. aIt's what makes those times you spend with your pets, loved ones, friends etc., so special. Playing God with stuff like this only ends badly."
Another one commented while raising questions, "Woah, I heard about this before just not of many people doing it-I have so many questions like, does it act the same? bark the same? did it grow in a lab? lol"
A third one wrote, "It has the same DNA but the way the animal acts is all up to how it's raised, nature vs nurture."
Tom Brady’s collaboration with the company highlights a bigger pattern of people making experiments with new technology.
His decision reflects his reputation for thinking out-of-the-box solutions and getting embroiled in controversies, whether it’s his strict diet under the TB12 Method or, now, the science of cloning.
