50 Cent reacts to Taylor Swift’s shout out in ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ album

Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, has only just dropped, and early reactions are already making headlines, especially one from 50 Cent.

Among the first to celebrate the record is none other than the rapper, who shared his excitement after discovering he gets a special mention, a shoutout, on one of the tracks.

The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, posted the album cover on Instagram Friday, October 3, thanking Swift for the nod on her song Ruin the Friendship. 

“@taylorswift shit is popping right now, she shout me out, she don’t shout you out,” he wrote. 

“LOL, THIS IS FOR BIG TIMERS ONLY! @50centaction wait I’m the only shout out on the whole album.”

On the song, Swift sings, “And it was not an invitation / But as the 50 Cent song played / Should’ve kissed you anyway.” 

While 50 Cent proudly claimed he was the only name-drop, technically the second track Elisabeth Taylor also references the late actress directly. 

Beyond that, Swift’s lyrics weave in subtle nods to several public figures without naming them, including fiancé Travis Kelce, who is believed to inspire multiple songs such as Opalite, which highlights their relationship.

Other tracks appear to touch on Swift’s history with music industry figures Olivia Rodrigo, Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, particularly in Father Figure.

Meanwhile, Actually Romantic has sparked speculation about a dig aimed at Charli XCX.

Ruin the Friendship, which fans once thought might detail Swift’s relationship with Blake Lively, instead seems to reflect on her late high school friend Jeff Lang, who died in 2010 following struggles with mental health. 

Throughout the song, Swift wonders about the unspoken feelings between them, repeating the line “should have kissed you anyway.” 

She recalls the moment friend Abigail Anderson Berard shared the tragic news, singing, “Goodbye, and we’ll never know why / But I flew home anyway / With so much left to say / It was not convenient / But I whispered at the grave / Should have kissed you anyway.”

When she first announced the album in August, Swift explained that The Life of a Showgirl would dive deeper than her public image. 

“This album isn’t really about what happened to me on stage. It’s about what I was going through off stage,” she said on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast. 

“It’s the life beyond the show.”

With personal revelations, heartfelt tributes and sharp lyrical references, the record has already set the internet buzzing, and for 50 Cent, the recognition seems to be an extra sweet bonus.
