Volleyball invented in 1895, has become one of the most widely played sport worldwide. In the United States (U.S.), it’s now the leading team sport for girls in high school and college, according to the USA Volleyball Foundation. 

Boy’s participation has also grown, with a 56 percent increase in male high school players over the past decade.

Globally, Volleyball is a popular spectator and recreational sport. It ranks among the most watched events at the Summer Olympics, with professional teams attracting nearly 01 billion fans. Recreationally, an estimated 800 million people play volleyball at least once a week.

How Volleyball is played:

The sport is played between two team separated by a net on a rectangular court, which may be hardwood, beach, lawn, or synthetic. Team attempt to hit the ball over the net within three traces per side, aiming to land it in the opponent’s court or force an error. Points are awarded when the ball touches the ground within the opposing boundaries.

Players are in constant motion, engaging in jumping, running, diving and hitting to main rallies. The sport requires collaboration agility, and teamwork to execute strategies such as blocking serve-receive, and quick offense.

Physical health benefits:

Volleyball provides a fully body drill, practices frequently include handling, toning, dexterity drills, and side to side movement training. The sport’s intermittent high- intensity exertion is similar to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), promoting cardiovascular health.
