Isla Fisher talks about navigating career after Sacha Baron Cohen divorce
Isla Fisher is stepping into a new phase of life with a renewed focus on herself and her career.
In a candid conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, published July 31, the 49-year-old actress reflected on recent challenges following her quiet separation from husband Sacha Baron Cohen.
“I’ve had a tough couple of years, but I’m making it through,” Fisher shared, offering a glimpse into the emotional journey she’s navigated. For her, the past months have been about balancing motherhood with personal rediscovery.
With daughters Olive, 18, Elula, 14, and son Montgomery, 10, Fisher said her children have always been her top priority. But now, she’s beginning to shift gears.
“I’m refocusing on my career, because previously I was very much focused on my kids, which I still am, obviously, because [they’re] my true love,” she explained. “But I’m enjoying tackling work again.”
That return to work includes several upcoming film projects. Among them is Spa Weekend, a comedy, as well as the anticipated sequel Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, set for a theatrical release on November 14, 2025.
Fisher said that the emotional upheaval has allowed her to reevaluate both her personal and professional identity.
“That’s been one of the benefits of a challenging situation: the luxury of asking myself, ‘What would I like to do professionally and privately?’” she noted.
“I’m trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible.”
Acknowledging that change is never easy, she added, “Any time there’s change, it’s hard to adapt. But hopefully I’m doing an OK job.”
In April 2024, she and Cohen, 53, confirmed they had quietly separated the year before.
The announcement came via a joint statement, which read in part, “After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down… We forever share in our devotion and love for our children.”
As Fisher steps into this next chapter, she’s doing so with grace, clarity, and a clear sense of purpose, both as a mother and as an artist ready to reclaim her creative space.
