King Charles encounters awkward moment during royal engagement in Canberra
King Charles, Camilla face hiccup as they arrive at Parliament House amid their hectic schedule
King Charles and Queen Camilla were once again greeted warmly as they touched down in Canberra on Monday to continue with their Royal Australia visit.
The monarch donned a navy-blue suit while Camilla was dressed in a chic white silk crepe dress by Anna Valentine, which she paired with late Queen Elizabeth’s diamond and pearl brooch.
After arriving in Australia’s capital, the royal couple headed to the Australian War Memorial, where they laid a floral tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier.
However, the pair met with members of the public before visiting the For Our Country memorial, which commemorates the military service of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women.
Charles and Camilla last visited the place in 2015 and large number of people gathered to get a glimpse of the then-prince and his wife.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and fiancée Jodie Haydon welcomed King Charles and Queen Camilla to Parliament House.
However, all did not go on as planned as Senator Lidia Thorpe expressed her strong opinions against the monarchy.
Thorpe got caught in scuffle with a police officer outside the Australian War Memorial and then yelled during the ceremony in Parliament House, “You’re not my king.”
“You committed genocide against our people. Give us our land back, give us back what you stole from us. Our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people.”
However, security ended up dragging her out while she continued to shout, “our babies, our people, you destroyed our land,” via a video footage posted by Nine’s 2GB.
The clip then shows the King seated and watching, before Prime Minister Anthony Albanese leans over and says something to him and appearing to smile.
