Portugal defeated Slovenia by 3-0 in penalty shootouts and will next be seen playing against France in the quarterfinals in Hamburg on Friday.
The Al Nassr star experienced a whirlwind of emotions as the match was tense and goalless by the end of regulation time, even after Ronaldo’s multiple attempts to score.
He was provided an opportunity to break the deadlock in the first period of extra time after Diogo Jota was fouled and Portugal earned a penalty, however, Ronaldo’s goal was stopped by Jan Oblak, shocking the 39-year-old, who is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Moments later, the ex-Real Madrid was seen weeping and being consoled by his teammates. The crowd too consoled the legendary player, chanting "Viva Ronaldo" as his emotions were displayed on the big screen.
Despite the emotional setback, Ronaldo made up for his lack of goal by scoring the first penalty.
In addition, goalkeeper Diogo Costa played an instrumental role by blocking all three Slovenian penalty goals.
