Wakeley church: Several people stabbed in Sydney days after Bondi mall attack
Religious leader stabbed and at least three other injured at church in Sydney's west
Several people were stabbed at a church in Sydney, a bustling city in Australia, on Monday, two days after the city saw a deadly stabbing at a busy shopping mall, causing fear among the masses.
On Saturday, six people — five women and one man — were stabbed to death in Sydney's Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre, with police ruling out terrorism as the motive behind the attack.
There is no link between the two events so far, as per the media.
Local reports indicate that a religious leader was stabbed and at least three others were injured at the church in Sydney's west.
Reports suggest that the attacker chose to strike at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church when the bishop was giving a service that was being live-streamed online.
Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was also among the stabbed as he was saying mass at Assyrian Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley just after 7pm.
The suspect came toward the altar and started attacking with his knife on Bishop’s head multiple times.
The ages of the four injured men, who have suffered non-life-threatening injuries, are believed to be between 60s and 20s.
The local police said that they responded to the reports of stabbing and apprehended a suspect.
"Officers arrested a male and he is assisting police with inquiries," a statement said.
"The injured people suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics."
