21 dead as suicide bombing rocks Afgahnistan’s Kandahar
Bombing occurrs at time when government employees were queueing to collect their salaries
At least 21 people were killed after a suicide bombing in Afghanistan’s Kandahar, BBC reported Thursday, as the Taliabn-run country battles militancy.
The British broadcaster reported the nearly two dozen death toll citing a doctor at the regional hospital; however, the government said that three people had died, while numerous others were wounded.
The suicide bomber attacked a bank in the city centre at around 3:30GMT, the officials said, with no group taking responsibility for the deadliest attack of the year.
BBC reported that the bombing occurred at the time when government employees were queueing to collect their salaries.
A doctor of the Mirwais hospital said, on the condition of anonymity, that the dead and the around 50 injured people were brought to his medical facility.
Kandahar is the base of the Taliban, the de facto rulers of Afghanistan. The base of Taliban’s supreme commander is also in the city.
Although the overall security situation has improved in the land-locked nation since the Taliban took over in 2021 and foreign troops withdrew, deadly bombings are yet to stop.
