Meera suspects house help of stealing jewellery, watch worth Rs10m

LAHORE: Highly expensive jewellery and a wristwatch were stolen from the residence of Pakistani film star Meera, who has accused one of her domestic help workers of being involved in the theft.

Police said that a case was registered on Meera's behalf after she reported the matter to them

The first information report (FIR) registered at the Defence (A) Police Station, stated that Meera, whose real name is Irtiza Rabab, came to know about the theft in the wee hours of Thursday when she returned home from shopping late at night around 12:30am.

The actor also stated in her complaint that she found her jewellery, two diamond sets and a wristwatch, missing from her "trunk". 

When she asked the domestic help workers present at her home, she found out that one of them, named Qasim, was not there and his phone was also unreachable or switched off.

"I strongly suspect that my belongings have been stolen by my house help Qasim," she said while mentioning the total worth of the stolen items.

According to Meera, the jewellery sets are worth Rs8 million and the watch is worth Rs2 million.

The film actor requested the police to arrest the nominated suspect and recover the stolen items.

Police said that they are carrying out raids in search of the suspect.

Born in Lahore, the Pakistani actor and model has been associated with the showbiz industry since her teens. In her initial works, she was a model, and in 1990s, she made her film debut with Inteha, which was a hit.

She has not only worked in the Pakistani film industry but in India’s Bollywood as well. Meera started in Zeher, 1920 London, and others.

She featured in Pakistan films including Mushkil, Baaji, among others.
