Manchester City's lead slips; Luton's Premier League match abandoned as captain suffers heart attack

Luton's Premier League match against Bournemouth was cut short due to a concerning incident involving their captain, Tom Lockyer. 

Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest during the game, prompting an abrupt stop to the match. The distressing situation saw Lockyer collapsing on the pitch, leading to immediate medical attention and the game being halted with a 1-1 score.

Fortunately, Lockyer received swift medical aid and was stretchered off the field, receiving supportive applause from the audience. Luton later confirmed that Lockyer was stable and under care at the hospital. 

The unfortunate incident echoed Lockyer's previous heart surgery after a similar collapse during Luton's Championship play-off final victory in late May.

Meanwhile, in a separate Premier League clash, Manchester City faced a setback against Crystal Palace. Despite initially holding a 2-0 lead, City stumbled, conceding two late goals. This unexpected turn of events resulted in a 2-2 draw, further impacting City's recent league performance, winning only one of their last six games.

City's manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed disappointment, acknowledging the team's errors, especially conceding the second goal, highlighting the need to avoid such lapses at their level of play. Palace, on the other hand, celebrated their resilience, with manager Hodgson highlighting patience as a crucial factor for their performance against a dominating opponent.

In other league matches, Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Sheffield United, while Newcastle clinched a 3-0 win at St James' Park, bouncing back after two consecutive defeats. Aston Villa, Arsenal, and league leaders Liverpool, managed by Jurgen Klopp, were scheduled for upcoming matches against various opponents, continuing the Premier League action.
